The course for the Trek Antwerp Marathon, half marathon and 10k on Sunday 19 October is set. Like last year, runners will get to enjoy a fast city course passing through numerous iconic locations. Just under 100 days before the event, over 15,000 runners have already signed up with a new participation record on the cards.
With the 2025 course, organiser Golazo stays true to the DNA of the real city marathon. It crosses right through the city centre, past numerous tourist hotspots with an eye on providing lots of atmosphere from the spectators on the side of the road. The marathon makes two loops that are not quite identical this year, thus offering some variation for the runners. That also means spectators will get a chance to see their favourite runners up close several times.
The three distances – marathon, half marathon and 10k – all start at Limaplein and finish under the MAS museum. The marathon turns back towards the city immediately after the Port Authority building and runs via Minderbroedersrui to the Meir. It then goes clockwise past Zurenborg, the Groen Kwartier and Antwerpen-Zuid to return to ‘t Eilandje via the quays. The second loop pulls briefly into the harbour as far as the Noordkasteel bridge before rejoining the first loop at the Havenhuis and adding a few miles in the south of the city. The marathon runners will pass the Boerentoren, the Central Station, the Palace of Justice and the new Zuidpark at least twice.
“We deliberately chose a course through the heart of the City,” said Golazo’s Greg Broekmans. “Even with a second passage, it never gets boring and the variations in the second loop only add to that. It also benefits the spectators and with people just about everywhere along the side of the road, that will create a unique atmosphere along the entire course. Last year we already saw numbers of supporters rivalling those of the Baloise Antwerp 10 Miles. The course is also flat and quick, providing opportunities to set a fast time for those who aspire to that.”
The course of the half marathon corresponds to the second loop of the marathon. The 10km first goes a little further into the harbour, right past the Noordkasteel bridge and then stays mainly on ‘t Eilandje.
At present the number of entries across the three distances has already sped past 15,000, with the 10k all but sold out. The increase in interest means that more than 20,000 participants are expected, which would be a first. Signing up for the half marathon and marathon is still possible at www.trekantwerpmarathon.be.
