The Antwerp Marathon will once again run through Antwerp in 2024. On Sunday 20 October, around 20,000 sports fans will run through the streets of Antwerp. This brings with it implications for the accessibility of the port area.
To allow both the 10 km, marathon and half marathon to run safely, the course will be made traffic free between 6am and 5pm. In the process, some roads will be closed, and traffic will be banned from the entire course. The map below shows an overview of the port area where disruption can be expected and what the options are.
On Sunday 20 October between 6am and 5pm, the following applies:
- Zwarteweg: Remains accessible but becomes a dead end at the eastern intersection with Kastelweg. Approach from Scheldelaan is possible.
- Kastelweg: Closed from the western intersection with Zwarteweg. Approach from Scheldelaan is possible.
- Noordkasteelbruggen: Closed to motorised traffic, ships can continue to pass at all times.
- Boerinnenstraat: Not accessible.
- Droogdokkenweg: Closed from the intersection with Oosterweelsteenweg.
Leaving the port area is only possible via the Frans Tijsmanstunnel or Liefkenshoektunnel.
